My DSP 3: All About that Bass

Song: All About that Bass

Artist: Meghan Trainor

Year: 2014

Favorite Lyric: Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top

Significance: Oh the song of the summer. Sorry for the earworm, but I do genuinely like this song, as well as the fluffy pastel video that goes along with it. And I considered saying something about this song when it first came out. It was hailed as the body positive song of the year, because of that lyric listed above, unless you listened to the rest of the lyrics which are mean to girls who didn’t fit the exact body type described, and which hang women’s self-esteem solely on the approval of men.

Also, I realize bass and treble are some sort of metaphors, but the song is still way more treble than it is bass so don’t think about that too hard either.

Despite all the wonderful discourse this song ignited, there is only so much a three-minute pop song can do. And this one made me want to shake it, shake it, like I’m supposed to do, so it makes the list.
